Bird Books-Who, What, Why?
Nigel
Bird Books was formed in 1985 and is a partnership between Nigel and
Sue Bird, a dedicated, friendly and enthusiastic husband and wife team.
Following
a 15 year career in Banking, Nigel, a lifelong railway enthusiast, left
the comparative safety of regular employment in Gloucestershire, and
the beauties of The Forest of Dean, to move to the somewhat more remote
location of Tregaron in spectacular West Wales (some 20 miles south of
Aberystwyth, 25 miles north of Carmarthen) to establish a specialist
railway bookselling business in conjunction with running a 5 acre
smallholding.
The business has grown steadily, and with the aid of the internet, mail
order, catalogues and specialist shows, (like model railway
exhibitions, heritage railway gala's etc.) and of late Ebay, has become
one of the top specialist dealers in the UK with literally thousands of
customers worldwide.
Very
substantial stocks of rare, out of print, used and new railway titles
are carried, in fact the farmhouse is groaning with stock! which runs
to well in excess of 7000 items, some 4000+ are currently listed on the
internet, with more added on a regular basis.
Titles
not in stock can often be sourced from contacts within the railway
trade, feel free to ask for a no obligation quote for that elusive book
you have been searching for!
Despite
over 25 years of trading the enthusiasm of Nigel and Sue never
diminishes, and they pride themselves on offering the level of service
they expect from retailers, a wide knowledge of the subject, well
packed and prompt despatch of orders, and above all enthusiasm.
Over
the years many hundreds of our customers have also become good friends,
a trend which continues to this day.
We
welcome you to our business and look forward to providing the level of
service you expect-you will not be disappointed.
I
once saw the following in a magazine and it sort of summed up our
approach to life, where quality of life is more important than wealth.
"We
used to make a living-but now we have a life"
